Singha Beer USTA $50,000 Tennis Tournament Concluded Today

ASHBURN, VA October 17, 2004-Laura Granville, the number one seed in the Singha Beer USTA $50,000 Tennis Tournament, defeated Lucie Safarova in the singles final match today, 6-4, 6-2. Granville, ranked 66th in the world, takes away $7,700 in prize money.

Kelly McCain and Kristen Schlukebir handily beat third seed Ruxandra Dragomir Ilie and Samantha Reeves, 6-2, 6-2. They pursed $2,800 in prize money.

This week’s tournament included high ranked players such as Marissa Irvin, ranked 69th in the world, Shenay Perry, ranked 86th, as well as up-and-coming player Angela Haynes. The tournament was the largest women’s professional tennis tournament occurring in Northern Virginia in more than 20 years, and will return to the area next year.
